When Tooth Extraction is Recommended Atlanta, GA
Dental Patient

The thought of getting a tooth removed can be upsetting. While it is your dentist’s goal to save teeth whenever possible, sometimes conditions are such that a tooth will need to be extracted. This most often occurs if there is severe pain and infection or tooth decay to such a degree that nothing can be done to save the tooth. If the situation warrants it, your dentist will suggest removal. Fortunately, if teeth need to be extracted, there are ways of replacing them so that your appearance will not be compromised, and you will still be able to enjoy your food without compromise.

In most cases, tooth extractions are routine procedures. Teeth in the front of your mouth have only one root and therefore usually come out easier than back teeth which have three and sometimes four roots. Impacted teeth also take a little more time to extract. When performing extractions, it is important to trigger the least amount of trauma to surrounding bone and soft tissue. Our dentists always keep this in mind during tooth removal. Extractions are done with the same care and attention to your comfort as all other procedures at the office of Dr. Wayne Suway. We want you to remain relaxed while the work is being done.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

The last four teeth to erupt in a person’s mouth are called wisdom teeth. They received that name because they come in after childhood is over. Unfortunately, many people in their late teens and early adulthood start experiencing pain or disruptions within their wisdom teeth. Occasionally a person may have these teeth erupt with little or no consequence. Most often, though, wisdom teeth are a source of trouble. It is important to have a dentist evaluate your wisdom teeth in your late teens and recommend a time at which they should be removed. Wisdom teeth are notorious for coming in at all angles, and they can sometimes push otherwise straight teeth out of alignment. In order to have the least impact on nearby teeth, bone and gum tissue, it is advisable that they be removed earlier as opposed to later.
